Projects
For over two decades, “Ambalaža” (later “Ambalaža/RegPrint”) served as a cornerstone of industry knowledge and education in Croatia and the region. In 2020, the “Miroslav Krleža Institute of Lexicography” included the magazine in the new edition of the Croatian Encyclopedia of Technology, cementing its significance as a pillar of technical heritage in Croatia.

CroPak, the award for the best packaging on the Croatian market was established in 2004 with the aim to promote and highlight the critical role of packaging as a cornerstone in product protection, promotion and identification.
Projects
RegPak, the award for the best packaging on the regional market was first presented in 2010, and since then 15 products have received the title of the best packaging in the region.
Projects
Focusing on knowledge transfer, IatT has successfully organized professional conferences in the packaging and graphic arts industries for many years. To date, over 30 events have been held, attracting numerous industry experts – both speakers and participants – from a wide range of countries and across different industries.

For the first time in 2012, Croatia was the host to World Packaging Days. Over the course of six days, Split became the central gathering point for global, regional and local experts involved in all stages of packaging creation and production. More than 250 participants from 37 countries worldwide attended the event.

Renowned fashion designers created dresses from packaging materials. The dressed were in displayed in Zagreb, Sarajevo, Belgrade and Ljubljana, and seen by more than 900.000 visitors.

CROPAK student creative workshop was held for the first time in 2009, with the aim of fostering collaboration between designers, educational institutions and the industry, as well as encouraging creativity among students from related higher education institutions.
Drena Tejić-Milijević, mag. računarstva i elektrotehnike, nakon 13 godina rada u Institutu tvornice Nikola Tesla u Zagrebu, današnjem Ericssonu, u ranim 90. pridružuje se ekspertnoj grupi koja je postavljala temelje Gospodarenja ambalažom i ambalažnim otpadom u Zagrebu i Hrvatskoj.
Drena je osnivačica i tvorac koncepta stručnog časopisa za korisnike i proizvođače ambalaže “Ambalaža” (kasnije i “Ambalaža/RegPrint”), koji je više od 20 godina bio okosnica informiranja i edukacije u tom području.2020. godine, leksikografski zavod “Miroslav Krleža” uvrstio ga je u novu ediciju Tehničke enciklopedije kao značajan doprinos tehničkoj baštini Republike Hrvatske.
Iste godine osnovan je Institut za ambalažu i tiskarstvo Tectus – IatT, koji brojnim projektima ispunjava misiju transfera znanja i tehnologija s razvijenih tržišta ka tržištu Hrvatske i regije u području ambalaže i tiskarstva.
2004. godine, po Dreninoj ideji i konceptu, pokreće se CroPak – nagrada za najbolju ambalaži na hrvatskom tržištu, a 2010. i RegPak – nagrada za najbolju ambalažu šest država ex-Yu regije.
2008. IatT postaje članica WPO-a, Svjetske organizacije za ambalažu, čiji je punopravni član s pravom glasa i danas. Drena je članica Upravnog odbora Svjetske organizacije za ambalažu i članica Stručnog ocjenjivačkog suda za izbor najbolje ambalaže na globalnoj razini i dodjelu nagrada WorldStar.
Poseban projekt koji potpisuje Drena Tejić-Milijević su Svjetski dani ambalaže, koji su u organizaciji IatT-a i WPO-a održani u Splitu 2012.godine, uz nazočnost 250 sudionika iz 37 zemalja i uz opsežan stručni sadržaj te dodjelu nagrada CroPak, RegPak i WorldStar.
Kroz brojne konferencije, savjetovanja, simpozije i radionice educirano je o ambalaži tijekom godina više od 3.000 stručnjaka iz raznih područja ambalažne industrije i tiskarstva te objavljeno više od 7.000 stručnih tekstova, izdan sveučilišni udžbenik te brojne stručne publikacije.
Danas, nakon objektivnih okolnosti redukcije određenih aktivnosti, Institut nastoji ponovno mobilizirati profesionalce, korisnike i proizvođače ambalaže te objedinjuje nagrade CroPak i RegPak u jedinstvenu nagradu za najbolju ambalažu pod nazivom Adria StarPack u zemljama Adria regije. Svi budući dobitnici nagrade Adria StarPack stječu pravo i mogućnost izravne nominacije za nagradu WorldStar, sukladno mandatu IatT-a, dodijeljenom od strane WPO-a.

Early Career and Establishment of the Magazine “Ambalaža”
Drena Milijević is a renowned expert in the packaging and graphic arts industry with a master’s degree in computer science and electrical engineering. After 13 years at the prestigious Nikola Tesla Institute, she joined a pioneering group in the early 1990s, laying the groundwork for packaging and packaging waste management in Croatia.
Drena’s vision and dedication in the packaging industry led to creation of “Ambalaža“, a specialized magazine for packaging professionals. For over two decades, “Ambalaža” (later “Ambalaža/RegPrint”) served as a cornerstone of industry knowledge and education. Drena’s contribution was further recognized in 2020 when the “Miroslav Krleža Institute of Lexicography” included the magazine in the new edition of the Croatian Encyclopaedia of Technology, cementing its significance as a pillar of technical heritage in Croatia.
Institute of Packaging and Graphic Arts Tectus (iatT)
In 2001, Drena founded the Institute for Packaging and Graphic Arts Tectus (IatT). IatT’s mission is to bridge the gap between developed and developing markets by facilitating the exchange of expertise and technologies in the packaging and graphic arts industries. Through a multitude of projects and activities, IatT has made significant strides in educating and informing industry professionals in Croatia and the region.
CroPak and RegPak Awards
Drena’s commitment to innovation extended to recognizing exceptional achievements in packaging. In 2004, she initiated the creation of CroPak, an award honouring the best packaging solutions in Croatia. This success story was followed by the launch of RegPak in 2010, encompassing the best packaging across six countries in the former Yugoslavia region. These awards have become prestigious accolades in the industry, promoting cutting-edge and high-quality packaging solutions.
World Packaging Organisation and „World Packaging Days“
In 2008, IatT became a member of the World Packaging Organization (WPO), which allowed Drena to actively contribute on a global scale. She holds a position on the WPO’s Board of Directors and serves as an expert juror for the esteemed WorldStar Packaging Awards.
In 2012, in collaboration with WPO, IatT organized the World Packaging Days in Split. This remarkable event brought together more than 250 participants from 37 countries, featuring a comprehensive professional program and culminating in the awarding of CroPak, RegPak, and WorldStar awards.
Educational Activities and Publications
Through numerous conferences, workshops and symposiums, IatT has empowered over 3,000 professionals from various packaging and graphic arts segments. Additionally, IatT has published over 7,000 expert texts, a university textbook and numerous professional publications.
Adria StarPack
Drena’s vision continues to shape the industry with the introduction of the Adria StarPack award. This unified award merges CroPak and RegPak, recognizing outstanding packaging solutions across the Adriatic region. Winners of the Adria StarPack gain exclusive access to direct nominations for the WorldStar Awards, reinforcing IatT’s dedication to global impact.
